Frozen Green Beans Recipe
We all know the struggle of trying to get dinner on the table after a long day. The last thing we want to do is spend time prepping and cooking a meal.
That’s where frozen green beans come in – they’re quick, convenient, and still packed with nutrients. But let’s be honest, sometimes they can turn out soggy and unappetizing.
Well, say goodbye to mushy vegetables because I have a solution for you! With a few simple tips, you can transform those frozen green beans into a tasty and flavorful dish that your family will love.
Do I Need to Thaw Frozen Green Beans?
Nope! No need to thaw the frozen green beans. I toss them in frozen and let the simmering water in the pan do all the work.
The amount of time you simmer the frozen green beans will determine how crispy or soft they will turn out.

How to Cook Frozen Green Beans
The easiest way to saute frozen green beans is to bring the ingredients to a simmer in a saute pan and let all of the liquid evaporate out of the pan.
This cooks the beans perfectly while making sure all the delicious flavor stays in the pan with the green beans.
Tips for Cooking Frozen Green Beans
My frozen green bean recipe couldn’t be easier! Here are some tips to make sure your beans turn out perfectly:
- Use a large enough pot: You need a big enough pot for the amount of green beans you’ll use. Overcrowding can lead to uneven cooking and mushy beans.
- Don’t thaw the beans: There’s no need to thaw your green beans for this recipe! How convenient is that? Just take them from the freezer to the pot and cook!
- Cook until all water is evaporated: This is key! Bring everything to a simmer and let all the water evaporate until you’re left with a buttery, flavorful glaze on the beans.
- Season to taste: Don’t forget to season your beans with salt and pepper to taste. It can be easy to forget, but makes all the difference.
How to Make Frozen Green Beans Taste Good
If you’re not a big fan of frozen vegetables, I promise this recipe will change your mind. The combination of butter, onion, and seasonings takes these simple green beans to a whole new level.
But this combination isn’t the only way to make frozen green beans taste great. Here are a few other ideas to try:
- Garlic and parmesan cheese
- Bacon and onion – green beans with bacon and onion are a favorite in my house!
- Lemon juice and herbs. Try thyme, rosemary, or parsley for a bright and flavorful twist
- Soy sauce, honey, sesame oil and sesame seeds
- Caramelized onion and roasted garlic
- Italian herbs, balsamic vinegar, and feta cheese
How to Serve this Frozen Green Bean Recipe
This recipe is not only delicious, but it’s also super versatile. The flavors are subtle enough that they pair well with various main dishes. Here are some ideas for how to serve this frozen green bean recipe:
- As a side dish: Pair them with slow cooked chicken tenders, reverse seared steak, lemon herb salmon, or chicken pasta casserole for a complete meal.
- In stir-fries: These yummy green beans are perfect for adding to stir-fries. Just cook them up with some veggies or protein of your choice.
- As a topping: Sprinkle these tasty green beans on top of a loaded baked potato or steakhouse mashed potatoes for something new and delicious.
Best Way to Cook Frozen Green Beans FAQs
If your frozen green beans are soggy, they could be overcooked. Cook them for a shorter amount of time, and don’t add too much water to the pan. The less water, the quicker they will cook and the less likely they’ll become soggy.
There’s usually no need to wash store-bought frozen vegetables before cooking. They’re already cleaned and ready to go – unless specified otherwise. But if you prefer, you can rinse them with water before cooking!
