With just a few simple ingredients and just 10 minutes of prep time, you can have this amazing steak butter ready to go. My compound butter recipe is ideal for using up any fresh herbs you have left over, and it adds a wonderful depth of natural flavor to any steak.

Plus, not only does this garlic herb butter make your steak even tastier – but it also helps to keep it nice and juicy.

You’ll want to keep your butter at room temperature to soften before mixing. This makes it easier for you to combine your fresh garlic and herbs with the butter. I like mixing my steak butter by hand in a medium bowl, but you can use a hand mixer or food processor if you prefer! However you choose to mix it, you won’t regret adding this delicious herby butter to your next steak.

What Is Compound Butter?

If you’ve never heard the term ‘compound butter’ before, you’re probably wondering what it is. Compound butter is simply butter combined with additional ingredients to give it a unique flavor.

Garlic, herbs, and spices are often used to make compound butter – but you can get creative with your ingredients and make all sorts of flavored butter.

Why You’ll Love Steak Herb Butter

  • Easily adaptable. You can use whatever fresh herbs you have on hand and switch up the flavor profiles to your preference. For example, you can swap out the fresh rosemary or fresh parsley for oregano – it’s up to you!
  • Deliciously flavorful. A steak is always delicious. But when you add a dollop of garlic butter on top of your steak? Well, now we’re talking about a whole new level of flavor! The garlic herb compound butter melts into the steak, creating juicy perfection that is seriously hard to beat.
  • Quick and easy. This steak herbed butter recipe is so simple to make and is a great way to spruce up all kinds of dishes. Every home chef needs a few tricks up their sleeve for their next cookout – and this is one of them!

What is the best way to store steak butter?

As we portioned out individual servings, you can easily transfer the butter to an airtight container and store it in the freezer. This will ensure your steak butter stays fresh for up to 12 months.

What is the best butter for steak?

You’ll want to use unsalted butter for this recipe. While we do add salt to our steak herb butter, using an unsalted stick of butter allows you to control the amount of salt in your recipe. This is important, as too much salt can overpower the flavor of the herbs and garlic cloves.

What can you use compound herb butter on?

Steaks are not the only thing you can use this fantastic butter on! Compound herb butter adds flavor and moisture to fresh vegetables and other types of meat.

Add some garlic herb butter to your crispy roasted potatoes after baking or on top of grilled salmon for amazing flavor. You could also spread this butter on a fresh dinner roll or use it to make cheesy garlic bread.

Compound herb butter is a great way to add extra flavor to your meals. And as it’s already portioned into individual servings – you can easily pull out what you need for whatever you make.

What is the best steak to use with this herb butter?

This steak garlic herb butter recipe is great for any type of steak. There are so many different cuts of meat out there, and there isn’t a bad or good steak cut – it just depends on your budget and preferences.

Whether you are craving a thick ribeye steak, NY strip steak, or a flat iron steak – this steak butter will be the perfect addition to any steak recipe. My grilled flank steak would taste amazing with this steak butter, as would my tri-tip recipe and reverse-seared steak!
