Homemade mixes are a fantastic way to eat a little healthier and gain massive flavor. Click for 5 stellar homemade mix recipes + other homemade food tips!

As we begin a new year, many people like to make resolutions to be healthier. One of the easiest ways to eat healthier without changing everything about how you eat or going on a crazy diet is to simply make things yourself. While store-bought mixes are super convenient, making them yourself is super easy! This allows you to control what goes in and they always taste better. I rounded up 5 of my best homemade mixes for you in this post PLUS I give you some great easy recipes that will help you ditch the packet isle and creamed can soup isle in the grocery store, if that’s something that appeals to you.

Homemade Taco Seasoning

Homemade Taco Seasoning!

Taco seasoning is just one of those things you buy in a packet. Right? WRONG! It is so simple to whip up a large batch yourself. Toss it in a mason jar and you are good to go for quite a while! I love the spice mix I use in this recipe, it’s just the right amount of heat and has a great blend of spices. The best part about making it yourself is that you can customize the flavor and spice just how you like it!

Homemade BBQ Dry Rub Recipe

BBQ Dry Rub

Um, talk about delicious. I use this dry rub on everything. Pork, beef, chicken, and even in salad dressings and homemade BBQ sauce to give them a little something extra. This rub is the perfect mix of sweet and spicy and totally simple to make yourself! I promise making this one will be cheaper than anything you can purchase!

Homemade Biscuit Mix Recipe

Halved biscuit spread with butter and honey next to a cast iron skillet full of biscuits next to a labeled bag of homemade biscuit mix.

Biscuits are one of my favorite quick breads to throw together. When you have a homemade mix, getting them on the table as a quick breakfast or dinner side is a totally delicious breeze! These are soft, flakey, and light. Everything a biscuit should be!

The Best Brownie Mix from Scratch

Crisp crust, gooey middle, perfect chocolatey taste – these brownies are where it’s at! Bring these to your next potluck and everyone will be asking for the recipe. You don’t have to tell them its a quick homemade mix 🙂 .

The Best Homemade Pancake Mix

The best ever homemade pancake mix!

These pancakes turn out perfect every single time. They are so light and practically melt in your mouth! This homemade pancake mix totally slams the boxed competition in the store. Added bonus, I use half whole wheat flour in this homemade mix so it’s a tad bit healthier!

Ok, now that I’ve loaded you up with some awesome homemade mixes, here are some of my favorite recipes that I’ve transformed into totally homemade classics. You won’t be disappointed!

3 Ingredient Alfredo Sauce

3 Ingredient Alfredo Sauce

I know this comes in a jar. And in a packet. But making it yourself only takes a few minutes and 3 ingredients!! WHAT? I know, I just changed your life.

Beef Stroganoff from Scratch

Beef Stroganoff from Scratch

This is my NUMBER ONE recipe on the blog! Crazy, right? People love it. Why? Because it is so easy and so flavorful! 30 minutes from start to finish people. Totally from scratch!

Crock Pot Poppy Seed Chicken: From Scratch

Crock Pot Poppy Seed Chicken

I love this recipe. Poppy seed chicken is an all time favorite of mine, and it’s even easier and better when you make it totally from scratch in the crock pot. Your family will love you.

The Best Homemade Marinara Sauce

I am half Italian. So basically that means we ate a lot of pasta growing up! I don’t think I ever had marinara from a jar until I was in college. Make this and it will change the way you view pasta forever! It is so easy and you can make it in a crockpot. How great is that?!

Swedish Meatballs

Swedish meatballs

Need I say more? These are a family favorite as well. Homemade meatballs do take more time, but I promise you will have an exalted meatball eating experience! Fun fact: I didn’t know you could purchase frozen meatballs until three years ago when my husband told me. I also just found out last week that you can buy frozen chicken nuggets. Don’t worry though, we have had our fair share of the drive-thru 🙂 . Ha!

Chicken Noodle Soup from Scratch

Chicken Noodle Soup From Scratch

Don’t be intimidated, chicken noodle soup from scratch is totally easy. And so is making your own chicken broth! It takes time, but it isn’t hard. Anyone can do this. You can too!
