The best brownie mix from scratch. Chewy on the inside with a crispy crust on the outside, these brownies really are perfect.

Making your own brownies from scratch really isn’t that hard to do. While it’s easy to grab a box from the store, having your own homemade brownie mix on hand can keep more money in your pockets and save you from a trip to the store when those chocolate cravings hit.

The Best Homemade Brownie Mix Recipe

This is hands down the best brownie mix ever. It gives you the perfect brownies! You know the ones that I’m talking about, those crispy crust edges on the outside and gooey centers that pack a chocolate punch.

When it comes to brownies, I’m pretty picky. I don’t want that cake-like texture.I want them chewy, soft, gooey, dense and filled with chocolate flavor. This homemade brownie mix really delivers on all counts.

To add to the great things I have to say about the best brownie mix in the world (this one)- this one dry mix can make 5-6 batches of 8×8 pan-sized brownies.

This is great because you can whip it up once, divide it, and set them aside for those brownie cravings or you can have enough brownie mix to feed a small army (or party) when the occasions arrive.

DIY Brownie Mix Ingredients

  • Cocoa powder
  • Flour

Can I add anything to this fudge brownie mix?

It is not recommended to add anything to the fudge brownie mix. However, if you’d like to add some extra flavor to your brownies before baking, here are some ideas of what you can add to the prepared batter:

  • walnuts
  • pecans
  • caramel bits
  • marshmallows
  • pretzels
  • chocolate candies
  • sprinkles
  • freeze-dried fruit
  • mint chocolates, chopped
  • crushed oreos
  • frosting (after baking)

How to make Brownie Mix from Scratch

  5. When you want to make brownies, simply combine the mixture with the requested eggs, oil, and vanilla until well mixed.
  6. Pour the batter into a greased 8×8 baking dish and then bake for about 20-25minutes in a 350F degree oven.

How long will this brownie mix recipe last?

If stored in an airtight container, this brownie mix recipe will last as long as the dried ingredients used to make it are suitable for. Check the expiration date on your flour and sugar to find out.

Homemade Brownie Mix FAQ

Can I make these brownies in a bigger pan?

No, they can be made in a larger dish. To fill a 9×13 baking dish, double the recipe and extend the baking time by about 10 minutes.
You can even make a smaller portion and have it baked in one of those mini cast iron skillets. Top it off with a scoop of homemade vanilla ice cream and some chocolate syrup for a great skillet cookie.

What oil should I use for the brownie mix?

A flavorless oil is best for making brownies. Something like canola or vegetable oil will work great. Butter can be used but it will change the consistency and bake of the brownies.

How long is homemade brownie mix good for?

If you keep it properly stored in a safe airtight container, you can expect this mix to last months at a time. You can even freeze the mixture for a longer storage solution if desired.
