Learning how to make wassail is easy! Create a delicious, festive, drink with just a few ingredients and a little bit of time.

As the holidays and cold weather come upon us we find ourselves enjoying the idea and luxury of warm spiced holiday drinks such as wassail. This delicious and flavorful drink will really lift your spirits when the cold white snow doesn’t fall or if it does fall and sticks longer than you’d like it to (depending on where you live you could experience both)!

While wassail isn’t a normally requested drink in many households, you may find it could become a favorite in yours- which wouldn’t be a bad thing considering that the ingredients are simple and the recipe is incredibly easy (or should I say foolproof) to complete!

If you’re looking for other great holiday drinks check out my pumpkin hot chocolate, mulled apple cider, or the best homemade hot chocolate! Adding these to a drink bar at a holiday party can not only add to the festivities but also bring out the inner host in you as everyone talks about how amazing your drinks are!

Ingredients needed to make this refreshing wassail recipe

  • 2 quarts apple juice
  • 1 cup pineapple juice
  • 2 cups orange juice bottled
  • 1/2 cup lemon juice fresh-squeezed
  • 4 cinnamon sticks
  • 1/4 teaspoon allspice ground
  • 1 teaspoon cloves whole
  • 1 cup cranberries fresh
  • 3 sprigs rosemary

How to make wassail

  1. Combine all of the ingredients together in a saucepan and bring it to a boil.
  2. Reduce the heat to a simmer and let it simmer for 15 minutes until the flavors have melded together.
  3. Strain the liquid before drinking and enjoy!

What exactly is a wassail?

Wassail is a Nordic beverage traditionally drunk around the holidays. It’s a medieval Christmas drinking ritual to ensure a good apple harvest the following year.

What’s the difference between wassail and cider?

Honestly, nothing. But wassail has been known to contain more delicious spices and flavors.

How long does wassail keep for?

If you don’t drink it all while it’s warm, you can cool it down and store it within a pitcher in the fridge for up to 5 days. Just reheat before drinking if you want it warm (or drink it cold- it won’t hurt you to do so).
