My strawberry cheese danish recipe creates 6 individual servings, but you can easily create a strawberry danish braid instead for a show-stopping crowd-pleaser!
How to Make a Strawberry Danish Braid
Creating a strawberry danish braid is super easy! The recipe stays exactly the same; it is just how you assemble it before baking that changes.
- To create a strawberry danish braid, simply roll out your puff pastry and make sure it is rectangular.
- Layer your cheese filling down the center only, then top with jam and strawberries.
- Once the danish strawberry filling is in place, you then need to slice and braid the edges together – creating a strawberry danish braid!
- For a full breakdown of this process (with photo instructions!), be sure to check out my apple danish recipe.
Why You’ll Love This Strawberry Danish Recipe
- Ready in a snap! We use shop-bought puff pastry in this recipe, which means this yummy treat can be ready in just 20 minutes!
- So delicious. Ricotta cheese and strawberry jam create a heavenly filling that is just irresistible. The flavors are similar to strawberry cheesecake but on a melt-in-your-mouth buttery pastry crust!
- Easily adapted. This strawberry danish is amazing exactly how it is, but you can certainly customize it to your tastes. You can make as many variations of this recipe as you like – swap out the strawberries for blueberries and make a blueberry cheese danish! Or switch the ricotta cheese and create a cream cheese strawberry danish.

As my strawberry cheese danish contains ricotta, you’ll want to store it in the refrigerator if you are not eating it the same day. Both individual servings and a whole strawberry danish braid will last in the fridge for up to 4 days (in an airtight container!)
While you can freeze ricotta cheese, I prefer not to freeze my danish strawberry treats once baked. This is because ricotta cheese has a high moisture content, so when frozen, the water in the ricotta will turn to ice. Then when defrosted, the ricotta cheese can separate, become watery and completely change the texture of the strawberry danish filling.
If you want to freeze your strawberry danish, you can easily swap out the ricotta cheese for cream cheese and make a cream cheese strawberry danish instead. When making a cream cheese strawberry danish, simply replace the ricotta and follow the recipe as usual. The results are still delicious, and you can freeze this version for up to 3 months.
Yes, absolutely! If you have homemade strawberry jam on hand, go ahead and use it! If you don’t, but would love to learn how to make it, then I have a recipe for you. My homemade jam is super quick, easy to make, and tastes delicious in my strawberry danish recipe!
My strawberry danish recipe is perfect for breakfast, brunch, or dessert. Serve individual portions of strawberry cheese danish as-is, sprinkled with powdered sugar, or cut the braid into slices and enjoy with a scoop of ice cream. Why not try drizzling it with a simple glaze icing or melted white chocolate, too – trust me, you won’t regret it!
