I love quick and easy snacks, and hot pockets are one of my favorites. They're convenient, delicious, and perfect for a busy day! And once you learn the correct cooking time for a hot pocket, they'll never be cold and undercooked or hard and burnt again.
To achieve hot pocket perfection, I tested the best hot pocket cooking time for every cooking method. After some trial and error (and comparing with the recommended cooking times), I've got the numbers you need to know — because we all deserve a little hot pocket treat now and then!
Hot Pocket Cook Time in the Microwave
The microwave is probably the most popular way to cook a hot pocket. It's the quickest option and perfect for those days when you're short on time! But the microwave can also be the trickiest (soggy crust, anyone?).
To get an evenly cooked hot pocket in the microwave, follow these steps:
- Take your hot pocket out of the packaging, put it into the crisping sleeve (if your chosen flavor comes with one), and place it on a microwave-safe plate.
- Microwave for 2 minutes on high power. Add an extra 10 seconds for meat-filled hot pockets.
- Let it rest for 2 minutes; it'll continue to cook during this time. This is important, as the hot pocket will be very hot!
Here's the hot pocket cooking time for two sandwiches in the microwave:
- 3 minutes and 30 seconds on high power. Crispy pepperoni pizza hot pockets need an extra 15 seconds.

Hot Pocket Cook Time in the Air Fryer
Cooking a hot pocket in the air fryer is my favorite method. It's the perfect combination of quick and crispy! It's also incredibly simple. The cooking time is the same for all flavors:
- Preheat your air fryer to 360°F.
- Remove all packaging materials from your hot pocket and place them in the air fryer basket.
- Cook one hot pocket for 15 minutes and two hot pockets for 16 minutes. Flip them halfway through for an all-over crispy crust (optional).
Hot Pocket Cooking Time in the Conventional Oven
Cooking a hot pocket in the oven takes 'quick' out of the equation but gives you a nice crispy crust. The filling also stays together well and doesn't get any scolding hot spots. I would still choose the air fryer any day, but the oven would be a good option for cooking multiple hot pockets.
Here's the conventional oven cooking time for a hot pocket:
- Preheat your oven to 350°F.
- Remove all packaging materials from your hot pocket and put it on a baking sheet.
- Cook for 26-28 minutes.
The cook times in this guide are based on the classic hot pockets. The 'Big & Bold' hot pockets will need a few extra minutes.

Recipe FAQs
I just recommend using the crisping sleeve provided with the Hot Pocket. It helps create a crispier texture when microwaving.
Yes, you can cook them from frozen. Just adjust the cooking time accordingly, usually adding a minute or two for microwaving or baking.
If you are in a pinch for a fast lunch or dinner, Hot Pockets are a filling and fast main dish if served with sides. I recommend serving it with roasted broccoli, roasted Brussels sprouts, or avocado corn salad.
Expert Tips
- Avoid Overlapping: Don't overlap or stack the hot pockets. That leads to uneven cooking, and nobody wants that.
- Air Fryer is the Best: Cooking a hot pocket in the air fryer is my favorite method. It's the perfect combination of quick and crispy!
- For Extra Crispness: If you like a crispier texture, poke a few holes in the top of the Hot Pocket to allow steam to escape.
