This poppy seed salad dressing is SO pretty. I love making it just because of the way it looks! This dressing is delicious on all salads, but especially salads that contain fruit and nuts.
What is poppy seed dressing made of?
A key for all homemade salad dressings with an olive oil base is to purchase a good quality olive oil. Since you aren’t cooking these at all, you’ll really taste the flavor of the oil. Good quality olive oils are more fruity tasting and generally have a deeper color. Poppy seed vinaigrette is made of some really basic and simple ingredients, here they are!
- Olive oil
- Cider vinegar
- Lemon juice
- Sugar
- Dried mustard
- Poppy seeds
- Salt
What is poppy seed salad dressing good with?
This salad dressing is delicious on just about anything but I really love it on salads made with more mild flavors.
I love serving it on a spinach salad that has fruit and nuts in it. It’s also great on salads with chicken or pork. It even makes a great marinade!
Why did the vinaigrette dressing separate?
This poppy dressing is a vinaigrette, which means the base is made of olive oil. When you mix the dressing together, you emulsify the oil into the other dressing ingredients. However, the longer the dressing sits, the more prone it will be to separating.
This is normal and fine, just give the vinaigrette a good shake and the oil will mix back into the other dressing ingredients easily.
