- Use the mixture in your ice cream maker according to the manufacture’s operating instructions.
- The ice cream will be slightly soft when it is finished in the ice cream maker.
- Add in the chocolate chips and the mints.
- For firmer ice cream, place it in the freezer for 3-4 hours.
Note that you can substitute milk for the half and half in this ice cream recipe but you shouldn’t substitute anything for the heavy whipping cream.
Do I have to use green food coloring?
You definitely do not have to include any food coloring into this mint chocolate chip ice cream if you do not want to. While a lot of people prefer that their mint ice cream be colored green, it is totally up to your preference as to what you would like to do.
What are some mint chocolate candies that would work well with this recipe?
There are so many different chocolate mint candies out there is can be hard to choose! Chopped Andes mints would work great in this ice cream and help to bring in some of that fun green color, but mint chocolate chips work great too and require no chopping!
What is the best container to store homemade ice cream?
You should want to keep your ice cream stored inside of an airtight lidded plastic container. But make sure to take note that a lot of different plastics will become brittle and break in the freezer, so it’s important to not just grab any Tupperware styled container.
You need to double check that there is a symbol on the bottom stating that it is indeed freezer-friendly otherwise all of your hard work could be wasted the first time you go to open the container for a scoop of ice cream. No one wants to eat broken plastic.
