Finding easy puff pastry recipes was just made simpler because listed below are some of the greatest puff pastry recipes to enjoy. With a wide variety of recipes below, you’re sure to find a few to add to your to-do list!

Before we get to the awesome list of recipes, let’s quickly cover some basic information that I know you’re dying to learn, right? We will start with what puff pastry is because I realize that not everyone knows this or has used it before so it feels like a good place to start!

What’s puff pastry?

Puff pastry is a dough that’s very buttery and packed with layers. It’s a combination of fats (butter) with dough that and when it’s baked, expands and “puffs” up, creating an airy pastry that is simply incredible.

How is puff pastry made?

It’s made through a long and boring process called lamination. While it’s not difficult, it does take a lot of time and effort to hand-make puff pastry dough as it requires 100+ layers. That’s a lot of folding and rolling!

Thankfully grocery stores carry it premade in the freezer or deli sections making our lives much simpler!

What is puff pastry used for?

Puff pastry can be used for a very wide range of recipes and pastries. You can get a good idea of the versatility by simply looking at the easy puff pastry recipes below. For everything from your breakfast danishes to savory appetizers and sweet desserts, puff pastry is there.

It even makes an incredible crust for chicken pot pie! You could be surprised at how many awesome recipes there are for using puff pastry beyond actual pastries!

Basic tips for proper puff pastry storage

Can puff pastry be frozen?

Yes, puff pastry can be frozen and is often found in the freezer section of stores. While most recipes will ask that you thaw the dough enough to make it workable, some may even ask that you leave it completely frozen and use it that way.

When frozen, puff pastry can last up to several months in the freezer before “expiring.” The worst thing about older frozen puff pastry is that it risks freezer burn and may not rise properly as a result, but it’s still technically usable.

Can puff pastry be refrozen?

This is a big one. Let’s say you buy it frozen from the store and place it in the fridge to thaw only to later change your mind, do you refreeze the puff pastry or do you have to do toss it out if it isn’t used?

The truth is that you can refreeze it, if you thawed it in the fridge or if it wasn’t exposed to room temperature for longer than 2 hours. Basic food safety stipulates that you should make sure foods aren’t left above 40F degrees for more than 2 hours, and this rule applies to puff pastry as well.

So, as long as you kept the dough chilled, you can safely refreeze until you’re ready to use! This is great news, right? But don’t worry, if you leave it in the fridge, it’s good for up to 3 days so you still have some time to find an easy puff pastry recipe to use it for if you don’t want to wait too long.

Where do you find puff pastry in the store?

Whether you’re trying to find puff pastry at a big grocery chain or a local market, most places hold the puff pastry in the freezer section. If you check in the freezer section near the frozen baked goods and pies, you’re more than likely to find a box of puff pastry ready to go in your cart.

What brand of puff pastry is best?

Obviously homemade is better, but that’s because everything homemade tastes better! Of course, that said, if you’re like me and don’t always have the time to make such a luxurious pastry by hand, store-bought is a great option.

Selecting a brand of puff pastry is a personal choice and completely up to you. I’ve tried a few common brands and so far haven’t been able to notice a difference between any of them. Simply select a box and try it out with an easy puff pastry recipe, then find more recipes and reasons to try other brands.

See if you can spot any differences between them and find which one works for you. You’ll answer your own burning questions and enjoy some great food in the process. It’s a win-win.

So now that you know more about puff pastry dough I’m sure that you’ve no doubt gotten more excited to make some delicious food, right? I know I have!

So without further ado, I’d like to present these incredible puff pastry recipes that are perfect for any occasion!
