Lentil soup is hearty and delicious. Make it quickly in an instant pot or pressure cooker or use a slow cooker. Either way, it turns out amazing!

I have been experimenting more and more with my Instant Pot and I love it for making soup! It takes a long process and shortens it considerably while also making it a hands-off recipe for busy days.

This easy lentil soup recipe is no different! I really love the texture that lentils give to soup, they make this meatless meal super hearty and filling.

    What is in Lentil Soup?

Lentil soup can really have whatever you want in it! I love to add a variety of vegetables that are going to flavor the soup as well as being filling and delicious.

I used carrots, onion, and celery in this version of this easy lentil soup but you can use whatever you want. Peas, kale, mushrooms, squash or corn would all be delicious additions or substitutions.

I don't recommend removing the onions or garlic from the recipe though. Both of those ingredients provide great flavor for the soup and it would taste bland without them.

How to Make Lentil Soup in the Instant Pot

Making lentil soup in the Instant Pot or another brand of pressure or multicooker is incredibly easy. Here is how to do it!

    • Add lentils, vegetables, and broth to the Instant Pot.
    • Cook on manual pressure for 12 minutes.
    • Let the Instant Pot naturally release.
    • Serve with a drizzle of cream!

How to Make Lentil Soup in the Slow Cooker

Making lentil soup in the slow cooker or crockpot is just as easy as making it in the Instant Pot! Here is how to do that.

    • Add lentils, vegetables, and broth to the slow cooker.
    • Cook on low for 6-8 hours or high for 4 hours.
    • Serve with a drizzle of cream!

    Can Lentil Soup be Frozen?

As with most of my recipes, this easy lentil soup can definitely be frozen! Once it is cooked, simply portion it out into freezer zipper bags or deli containers and store it in the freezer. I freeze the bags flat first and then stack them upright in the freezer. Check out more information on freezing food and get a ton of freezer recipes here!
