Chocolate ice cream is a delicious treat that is easy to make with an ice cream maker. Creamy, sweet, and chocolatey goodness in every bite!

Who doesn’t love chocolate ice cream? The cool, smooth and delicious tastes of ice cream and chocolate can have you feeling like you’ve died and gone to heaven.

This easy homemade chocolate ice cream will give you a reason to keep your chocolate ice cream supply in stock and ready to eat at a moment’s notice.

With this eggless chocolate ice cream recipe, you can make this foolproof ice cream whenever you want.

With no fear of undercooking or overcooking the ice cream batter, you can enjoy the simplicity and appreciate the lack of effort and dirty dishes.

Unlike other no-cook chocolate ice cream recipes, this one doesn’t ask for cocoa powder. Instead, it gets its delicious chocolate flavors from melted chocolate chips!

This helps to give it a smooth texture, great flavor and that beautiful brown color we come to expect when we hear the term “chocolate ice cream.”

Once your ice cream is set and complete you can scoop yourself a bowl full and top it off however you want!

Make my other homemade ice cream recipes and put a scoop of each in a bowl and you can have an incredible ice cream sundae in your hands (literally!)

How to Make Homemade Chocolate Ice Cream

  • Combine the sugar, heavy cream, and the half and half. Mix everything together until the sugar is mostly dissolved.
  • Melt the chocolate chips in the microwave, using a microwave safe bowl. Cook in 30 seconds increments, stirring between each.
  • Combine the melted chocolate with cream mixture and then whisk until smooth.
  • Use this chocolate ice cream mixture in an ice cream maker according to the manufacture’s instructions.
  • The ice cream will be slightly soft when it is finished in the ice cream maker.
  • For more firm ice cream, place in the freezer for 3-4 hours.

Note that you can substitute the half and half for milk, but you’ll get a softer and more icy textured ice cream as a result. Don’t substitute anything for the heavy cream.

How long does homemade chocolate ice cream last?

This is pretty dependant upon the coldness of your freezer as the colder temperatures will preserve it for much longer.

That being said, when it comes to homemade ice cream, it’s always better enjoyed when it is fresher. For that reason, I recommend eating your chocolate ice cream within 2 weeks.

Any longer than that and your ice cream may risk freezer burn or lose some of its flavors while gaining more ice crystals.

What is the best container to store homemade ice cream?

You should keep your ice cream stored in a food storage container for easy access and maximum freshness.

Keep in mind that a lot of different plastics become brittle and break when kept in the freezing temperatures.

For this reason, it’s important to invest in freezer-friendly food storage containers. Any freezer-safe lidded storage container should work just fine.

How can I make this chocolate ice cream even more chocolatey?

If you want to bump up the chocolate-flavored intensity consider adding in a teaspoon or two of chocolate cocoa baking powder.

This can definitely work to give you your desired results but you can also add in non-melted chocolate chips for a chocolate crunch in every bite.

Don’t forget that when your ice cream is finished, you can enjoy it in a bowl topped with chocolate syrup or hot fudge, and some chocolate whipped cream and sprinkles! Death by chocolate sounds like a delicious way to go.
