Butter beans are such a pantry staple; they are perfect for bulking out a meal and are an excellent protein source. My butter beans recipe with herbs is one of my favorite ways to serve butter beans. The zesty flavor of the lemon really shines through and complements the buttery texture of the beans perfectly. Plus, the herbs add a bright, delicious touch that takes this dish to the next level.

Toss these butter beans with herbs into a salad for a protein-packed lunch, or serve them as a side dish alongside your favorite main course. They pair incredibly well with grilled meats or fish, or why not add them to a veggie wrap for a tasty, satisfying meal on the go? However you choose to enjoy them, you’ll love how my butter beans recipe with herbs can spruce up any dish!

Why You’ll Love Butter Beans With Herbs

  • Choose your favorite herbs. I love the flavor combination of rosemary, parsley, and basil, but feel free to mix and match according to your taste. Honestly, I can’t think of a herb that wouldn’t taste good in my butter beans with herbs.
  • Use your herb garden. If you have a herb garden, this is the perfect recipe to show it off. Fresh herbs provide a glorious taste, but if you don’t have any growing, no worries – dried herbs will work just fine.
  • Quick and easy. This recipe comes together in a snap, which is great when you’re short on time or just don’t feel like spending hours in the kitchen.

Can I use a substitute for butter beans?

If you’re not a fan of butter beans, you can use any type of beans you have on hand. Cannellini beans or great Northern beans would both be delicious substitutes!

You could even use a different substitute for butter beans, such as chickpeas, if you want to switch things up. I love utilizing seasonal produce or items in my pantry, so feel free to get creative with this recipe.

How do you store butter beans with herbs?

Eating this butter beans recipe with herbs fresh off the stove is the best, but if you want to batch cook or meal prep, it’s easy to store. Let the butter beans cool completely, then transfer them to an airtight container and refrigerate for up to 5 days.

When you’re ready to enjoy, simply add them to your meal or enjoy my recipe for butter beans as a side dish. You can even reheat them on the stove for a few minutes or enjoy them cold!

What are some other great herb combinations?

If you’re not a fan of the herbs I’ve used, don’t worry! Get creative and mix and match until you find your perfect flavor combination.

Here are some great herb combinations to try:
– Oregano and sage
– Basil and cilantro
– Rosemary and thyme
