I don’t know about you all but at our house, summer time means its grilling time! One of my favorite ways to fix meat in the summer is BBQ it on the grill. I’m actually not a big fan of BBQ sauce just slapped on meat – it has to be done just right. Otherwise you end up with no blended flavors, it’s just sauce on top of meat with none of the great flavor you can get out of grilling. Who wants that?! A homemade BBQ dry rub is a fantastic way to infuse BBQ flavor throughout your meat when cooking it on the grill. By rubbing it in and letting it marinate on the meat for a few hours, you really allow the flavor to penetrate the meat and it just amps up the entire grilling experience. And when I say rub, I mean RUB – like that steak hired you for a full body massage!
Of course this homemade BBQ dry rub is also fantastic in the oven or stovetop – and oh my, oh my, tell me how it turns out if you have a smoker! I do sometimes pair this with BBQ sauce, but I usually only put sauce on after the meat is totally done. Think of BBQ sauce as a garnish, not a gloppy addition. Using a rub is a super quick way to change up regular old chicken breasts or pork chops into a flavor-packed dish!
