How to Cook Hard Boiled Eggs

Learning this method for cooking hard boiled eggs was a game-changer for me! They turn out every single time.

    • Place eggs in a large pot.
    • Fill with water until they are covered by 1-inch.
    • Bring to a boil, turn off heat.
    • Let sit for 10 minutes.
    • Place in a water bath to cool.

I usually add a splash of vinegar to the water as well to help the eggs peel more easily. I've also found that older eggs peel much better than fresh ones. Letting them sit for about a week before using them to boil is just fine and perfectly safe.

    Perfect Hard Boiled Egg Time

The method I use in this hard boiled egg recipe gives you perfect eggs every single time. Bringing the eggs up to a boil and then letting them sit in the water with the heat off cooks them through but is a gentle enough method they aren't overdone.

It also guarantees there won't be that nasty green ring around the yolk and it won't be dry. No one wants that! Plus, a perfectly cooked yolk makes a huge difference in other egg recipes. For example, my Egg Salad Sandwiches are amazing with this recipe or my Macaroni Salad Recipe.

Now, here is the best hard-boiled egg recipe! I think it will be perfect for the upcoming season of eggs, picnics, and parties! I can hardly wait for the warmer weather.

    Ingredients

    • 12 eggs
    • 8 cups water (approximately)
    • 1 tablespoon vinegar (any kind)

    Instructions

    • Place eggs in a single layer on the bottom of a large pot.
    • Add water until the eggs are covered by one inch. This is usually about 8 cups in my pot, but the amount will vary depending on the size of your eggs and pot.
    • Add the vinegar.
    • Place the pot on the stovetop and bring to a rolling boil.
    • Turn off heat and let sit, covered, for 10 minutes.
    • Place eggs in an ice bath to stop the cooking process.
    • Once cooled, tap and roll gently to peel.
