    Recipe FAQs

Can I make lasagna roll-ups ahead of time?

Lasagna roll-ups can be prepared in advance, assembled, and refrigerated or frozen until you're ready to bake them. It's a great meal to make in preparation for any event.

Can I make lasagna roll-ups vegetarian or gluten-free?

Absolutely! Lasagna roll-ups can easily be customized to suit dietary restrictions. For a vegetarian option, use vegetable fillings. For a gluten-free version, substitute regular lasagna noodles with gluten-free ones available in most stores.

What should I serve with lasagna roll-ups?

I like to serve soft & chewy French bread and a green salad with a simple homemade salad dressing. Classic and delicious.

    How do I store leftovers?

Store any leftover roll-ups in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3-4 days. They can also be frozen for up to 3 months. To reheat, bake in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) until heated through, or microwave until warm.

    Expert Tips

    • Avoid Overcooking Noodles: If you're using regular lasagna noodles, be sure not to overcook them. They should be pliable but not mushy!
    • Freeze for Later: Lasagna roll-ups freeze well. Assemble them, then freeze before baking. When ready to eat, bake from frozen, adding extra time as needed.
    • Add Veggies: Feel free to mix in or layer vegetables like sautéed mushrooms, zucchini, or bell peppers for added flavor and nutrition.

    Ingredients

    • 12 lasagna noodles
    • 3 cups shredded mozzarella
    • 1 cup freshly grated parmesan
    • 2 ½ cups ricotta
    • 1 tablespoon Italian seasoning
    • 3 ½ cups marinara sauce ((or your favorite pasta sauce))

    Instructions

    • Preheat your oven to 375°F.
    • Cook your lasagna noodles, drain them, and pat them dry. Lay them out on a kitchen towel to prevent them from sticking to each other.
    • In a large bowl, stir together 2 ½ cups of mozzarella, ⅔ cup of parmesan, and all of the ricotta.
    • Use a spoon or spatula to spread the filling out over each of the lasagna noodles. Roll each lasagna noodle like you would a cinnamon roll.
    • Cover the bottom of a 9x13 inch baking dish in a thin layer of marinara sauce.
    • Add each of the lasagna roll-ups and cover with the remaining sauce. Sprinkle the top of the dish with the remaining cheese.
    • Cover the baking dish with tin foil and bake for 35 minutes. Remove the pan from the oven, take off the tin foil, and bake for an additional 5 minutes.
    • Serve and enjoy!

    Notes

    • If you want to add some protein to this dish, you can add a pound of cooked sausage or beef. Simply sprinkle it over the cheese before rolling up your lasagna!
    • Italian seasoning can be made by combining equal parts parsley, oregano, and basil. You can also add garlic and onion powder.
    • I like the flavor of fresh parmesan much more than prepackaged stuff, but both work great. Prepackaged cheese will melt differently just because it is so finely grated.
    • Make sure you lay out the lasagna noodles after they finish cooking. Otherwise, they will stick together and tear when you try to separate them. (I learned this the hard way!)
