Refreshing Citrus Lemonade
Melissa Griffiths
Refreshing citrus lemonade is made with lemon, orange and grapefruit juice. It's the perfect blend of tangy and sweet and will be an instant hit. Easy enough for everyday and tasty enough for special occasions!
Juice the lemons, orange, and grapefruit over a fine mesh strainer to catch all the seeds and pulp.
In a large pitcher, add the sugar, lemon juice, orange juice, and grapefruit juice.
Add 9 cups of warm water, taste the mixture and finish adding water to your taste. You may want less than 12 cups or more than 12 cups. See note.
Once the water is all added, stir vigorously until all the sugar is dissolved.
Allow to chill and serve. Garnish with mint or basil sprigs.
Notes
Seasonal Adaptations: This recipe shines in different seasons with small tweaks. In winter, serve it warm as a citrus toddy, or add a splash of cranberry juice for holiday color. Spring calls for fresh strawberry slices, while fall pairs beautifully with a cinnamon stick stirrer.Cocktail Potential: This citrus lemonade makes an exceptional cocktail base. Add vodka for a citrus martini, tequila for a refreshing margarita variation, or prosecco for a sparkling citrus spritzer. Batch Preparation: The concentrate (just the juices and sugar) can be made in large batches and frozen in ice cube trays. Pop out a few cubes, add warm water, and you have fresh lemonade in minutes. Zest Enhancement: Save the zest from your juiced citrus fruits and add a small amount to your pitcher for extra aromatic oils and visual appeal. Just a teaspoon of mixed zests adds incredible fragrance and a more complex flavor profile without additional tartness.
