Melissa Griffiths
This dutch oven Blueberry Cobbler with Cake Mix brings summer sweetness to your table any time of year. The buttery, golden-brown crust cradles warm, bubbling berries that practically melt in your mouth. Add a dollop of ice cream and you're set for a rustic but so yummy dessert!
22ouncesblueberry pie filling(one can, this can vary slightly)
12ounces Sprite(one can)
Instructions
Spread blueberry pie filling evenly over the bottom of the dutch oven.
Sprinkle the dry cake mix evenly over the top.
Pour Sprite evenly over the top.
Place lid on the dutch oven and place about 15 coals on top and 5-8 underneath.
Bake for 20-30 minutes, until the top is golden brown and bubbly and feels set when gently pressed with a spoon.
Let the cobbler rest uncovered for 5-10 minutes before serving. The blueberry filling will thicken slightly and it will make serving much easier.
To Bake in the Oven
Preheat oven to 350ºF.
Bake prepared cobbler for 20-30 minutes until the top is brown and bubbly.
Notes
Recipe Variations:
Try other cake flavors like white, vanilla, or even lemon cake mix for different flavor profiles. Lemon cake mix pairs particularly well with blueberries for a bright, citrusy twist.
You can use any clear, lemon-lime soda like 7UP or Sierra Mist as direct substitutes. For different flavor variations, try ginger ale or even cream soda.
Don't Stir: For the perfect texture, don't stir the layers together. The magic of this cobbler happens when the cake mix creates a perfect golden crust while the blueberries bubble underneath.Dutch Oven Fire Cooking Tips:
When placing coals on top, arrange them in a ring around the outer edge of the lid with a few in the center. This mimics the heat distribution of a conventional oven and helps prevent hot spots that could burn your cobbler.
Check for doneness by carefully lifting the lid straight up and off, not tilted. Tilting can cause ash to fall into your dessert.
No Dutch Oven? Oven Instructions for Blueberry Cobbler with Cake Mix
To cook it in the oven you will need to follow the same preparation steps as above, only instead of using hot coals, you’ll use an oven that is preheated to 350°F.
The baking time is the same and in 30 minutes or less, you could be enjoying a freshly baked Dutch oven blueberry cobbler.
Serving Suggestions:
Create a DIY cobbler sundae bar with different toppings like whipped cream, chopped nuts, fresh berries, and maybe even some caramel sauce. It's become our traditional birthday celebration dessert when camping!
For breakfast the next day (yes, I said breakfast!), warm up any leftovers and serve with a dollop of Greek yogurt and a drizzle of maple syrup. It's absolutely divine with morning coffee, and I won't tell if you don't!
Storing & Reheating:
Store any leftover cobbler covered at room temperature for up to 2 days, though the topping will gradually lose its crispness.
For longer storage, cover tightly and refrigerate for up to 5 days.
While you can reheat individual portions in the microwave, the best way to restore the topping's texture is to warm it in a 300°F oven for about 15 minutes.
