Melissa Griffiths
Learn how to make luxurious Steakhouse Mashed Potatoes with cream cheese, fresh herbs, and seasoned salt. These make-ahead mashed potatoes are perfect for entertaining and taste just like your favorite restaurant!
Boil until fork tender-start potatoes in cold water.
Mash over low heat, this allows the moisture to escape and creates fluffy mashed potatoes.
Add half and half, cream cheese, butter, salt, season salt, pepper, and herbs.
Mash until combined and smooth.
Pour into buttered 8x8 pan. Dot top with additional butter, if desired. Cover with foil.
When ready to eat, place covered pan in 350°F oven for about 20 minutes or until warmed through.
Notes
The Secret to Steakhouse Flavor: The recipe uses both regular salt and seasoned salt, along with fresh herbs (rosemary and thyme). These multiple layers of seasoning are what give the potatoes their steakhouse-quality flavor.Room Temperature Cream Cheese: Having room temperature cream cheese will help it blend more smoothly into the potatoes without leaving lumps.Make-Ahead Instructions: You can prepare these ahead by transferring to a buttered 8x8 pan, dotting with butter, and covering with foil. When ready to serve, just warm in a 350°F oven for about 20 minutes.Doneness Test: Boil the potatoes until "fork tender" — this means a fork should easily slide into the potato pieces with no resistance so that your potatoes will be smooth and not lumpy!
