Homemade Berry Pie

Homemade berry pie is a classic all year round no matter the occasion. It's a perfect balance of sweet and tart and packed with berry flavor!

Ingredients

  • 2 pie crusts see note for recipe
  • 5 cups mixed berries see note
  • 2/3 cup sugar
  • 2 tablespoons instant tapioca
  • 1 tablespoon orange zest
  • 1 pinch salt
  • 2 tablespoons butter cold, cubed

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 400ºF.
  • Place half of the berries (2 1/2 cups) in a small saucepan and reduce over medium heat for about 8 minutes.
  • Combine reduced berries with the rest of the frozen berries, sugar, tapioca, zest, and salt.
  • Place one of the pie crusts in the bottom of a pie plate.
  • Pour berry filling into the pie plate. Scatter butter over the top.
  • Cut vents of any shape into the top of the second pie crust. Place on top of the pie. Trim and crimp edges.
  • Bake at 400ºF for 25 minutes. Reduce oven temperature to 350ºF and bake for an additional 30 minutes.
  • Let cool completely before serving.
