Abram’s 1st Birthday! + Chocolate Cake

The easiest, foolproof chocolate cake you’ll ever make. No eggs? No worries! This cake doesn’t even have any. Try it out, it will be a hit!

Bark Cake

Over Thanksgiving, my friend Katie was kind enough to let me come and ride one of her lesson horses. AND she let Abe ride her adorable mini mare!!!! It was so adorable. And Abe loved it, he giggled the whole time. It was a short ride, ya know cuz he’s little, but it was so fun for me to watch.

I also had a super awesome ride, which was just what I needed. She is great! We loved it. One day he will get his own!

Abe and a Pony

We also celebrated Abram’s birthday last weekend! My house is so dang dark so the pics aren’t great but you’ll get the idea. My new favorite way to throw a party is to buy digital party packs on Etsy. So affordable and so cute! I bought this pack from The Coral Balloon, she has so many great things! This totally fit us and Abe and was just the cutest.

At the last minute I decided to write some of Abe’s favorites and not-so-favorites on my chalk board. He got SO many presents for such a little guy! Also, let’s not talk about how long the photos in that 4-photo frame have been falling down and I haven’t fixed them…

But we should talk about the best food item – the cake! Abe was so confused when we all sang to him, it was hilarious. He almost cried. And then I wanted to help him blow out the candle and Andy blew it out. I think my mom captured that moment on her camera and my face had a very kind and flattering expression on it…

Abram LOVED eating the cake. He ate that whole piece. So fun!

The dogs enjoyed a nice cuddle with Andy after all the excitement died down. Poppy even dressed up a little for the occasion!

Now for this cake recipe!

Bark Cake

I got this cake idea from a photo in the party pack pics actually! It is just supposed to look like like it has bark on the side, hopefully it does! To make the bark, I just melted 8 oz of chocolate and then spread it on parchment paper in a sheet pan. I used a smaller sheet pan but if I did it again I would use a full size sheet pan and make the pieces thinner. I put it in the freezer and then when it was firm I scored it with my knife and then cut it with a sharp knife to avoid cracking. So simple and so fun!

So ya’ll are going to think I’m crazy but this basic chocolate cake recipe I get the most compliments on is a super simple one. It’s a recipe my grandmother gave me that I’ve been making for years. And it doesn’t have eggs in it! WHAT?! I know, crazy right? But I am the worst at having ingredients on hand {chickens help a lot with the egg thing} and going into town is at least an hour ordeal and never worth one thing so…..I just find or make up crazy recipes. It’s good, I promise!
