These rice krispie squares are is perfect for summer! Classic, easy, and no baking required. Some twists to the original will make them a hit!
There is nothing more nostalgic than biting into a classic rice krispie treat. I love the contrast of the gooey marshmallows and the crunchy cereal! These rice krispie squares are a true classic, a perfect no-bake dessert for the hot summer days we have coming up!
The only difference between my recipe and the original is the portions and a few slight ingredient variations. You just can’t change a classic! To see the original rice krispie squares recipe, head on over to Kellog. 🙂
I am stockpiling sweet treats that don’t heat up the house for this summer. We don’t have an air conditioner, so things can get pretty roasty in the house if I decide that a dessert must be baked! No bake desserts are something I need to master!
What are your favorites?!?!?! My family never ate a lot of no-bake desserts when I was growing up so they aren’t the first recipes to come to mind when my sweet tooth hits.
My favorite thing about these rice krispie squares is the extra whole marshmallows mixed in and the chocolate drizzle. If there is an opportunity to add chocolate to a treat, you better believe I’m going to be all over it. Obviously it is optional…but….why wouldn’t you?!

Rice krispie squares are also amazing because you can add SO MANY THINGS to them and customize it to your tastes!! Just be sure you let the mixture cool for 2-3 minutes before adding anything that could melt.
And yes. I am speaking from experience here. #always
Chopped peanut butter cups are a favorite of mine. But you could add anything from M&M’s, to sprinkles, to chocolate chips….the possibilities are endless.

Classic Rice Krispie Squares
Equipment
Ingredients
- 3 cups Rice Krispies cereal or similar
- 2 tablespoons butter separated
- 3 cups mini marshmallows separated
- pinch salt
- 1/4 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips melted
Instructions
- Butter an 8x8 baking dish with 1/2 tablespoon of the butter.
- In a medium saucepan, melt butter and 2 cups of the mini marshmallows until smooth.
- Quickly stir in salt.
- Add in Rice Krispies cereal and stir until totally combined.
- Let cool about 2 minutes, then quickly stir in the remaining 1 cup of mini marshmallows.
- Pour into the greased baking dish and flatten. I find it is easiest to spray my hands with a bit of cooking oil and press the mixture in that way.
- Let cool completely.
- While treats are cooling, melt chocolate chips in microwave.
- Microwave in 15 second intervals, stirring in between, until about half the chips are melted.
- Remove from microwave and stir until all the chips are melted.
- Spoon into the corner of a sandwich bag.
- Snip off the tip of the corner and pipe lines over the top of the treats.
