Homemade Taco Seasoning

Homemade Taco Seasoning!

I love making homemade mixes and spices. Homemade taco seasoning is by far the easiest spice mix I make – it literally only takes 5 minutes to throw together and a jar of it will last you for months! I make homemade taco seasoning because {1} it’s cheaper {2} I can flavor it to my preference and {3} it is slightly healthier because I use less salt than the ones you typically find in the store. Most of my motivation for making homemade everything stems from being a broke college student who loved to eat. Homemade is usually cheaper! Basically food and eating is always my motivation, which means that I’m a lot more like my animals than I like to admit. My mom takes a lot of pictures and I am eating in approximately 85% of the ones I’m featured in. That means that in 2016 alone there are about 1,000 pictures of Alli Eating. #cutie #classact

Homemade taco seasoning is so easy to make and lets you control exactly what goes in and what the spice level is like! Take 5 minutes and throw it together.

Anyways, this homemade taco seasoning recipe is so easy and I love making it. I love mixing the spices and seeing how pretty they all look when they are mixed together. This is the spice level we like, I recommend tasting a little bit of your mix as you go so you know how you’d like to adjust things.

Homemade Taco Seasoning!

I use about 3 tablespoons of mix per pound of meat I’m seasoning but I always taste and adjust if needed. Additionally, I usually add things like tomato paste and some fresh onion or garlic to my tacos but if you wanted to use just the mix with your tacos that would work too. I guess my life just feels incomplete for the day if I haven’t chopped and onion. I like to think I eat as I cook because I need to make sure things are tasting how I want…but it’s probably just because I can’t help myself.

And this jar is seriously adorable. I have a problem collecting jars. Andy made me clean some out when we harvested our honey and it was soooooo hard. And then I went to our local thrift store and bought some more because they were just sitting there looking lonely begging for someone with a jar addiction to purchase them. #sorrynotsorry

Let me know if you try this mix and how you like it! We fry our own tacos and I have a beef taco filling with zucchini I love that uses this mix, check them out!
